Best Practice: Use Third-Party Software That Supports the WebDAV Protocol If Using SmartVault Drives on Windows XP Computers
Because Windows XP is older technology, the process of “mapping a drive” is called “creating a Network Place.” In addition, this process works differently than the process of “mapping a drive” used in more recent versions of Windows, such as in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Because the “Network Place” approach used in Windows XP works differently than “mapping a drive,” in Windows Vista and Windows 7, although you can use the SmartVault Drive on Windows XP, you cannot save documents directly into folders in SmartVault using the SmartVault Drive in Windows XP.
For example, you can still drag and drop to upload or move documents in your account using the SmartVault Drive on a computer running Windows XP. However, you cannot save documents directly to the SmartVault drive from an application such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.
If you want to be able to save documents directly to the SmartVault Drive from an application such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, SmartVault recommends that you use a solution such as WebDrive by South River Technologies or GoodSync (free) or GoodSync Pro from GoodSync.
