Changing Your Password
Note to Writer: This topic was rewritten to include information from Kelly’s help and information from Himanshu’s old KB197.
You can change your password at any time by signing in to the SmartVault portal.
You must sign in to the SmartVault portal in order to change your password. You cannot change your password from the SmartVault Desktop software.
If you have forgotten your password and you can’t sign in to the SmartVault portal, you can reset your password at any time by requesting a password reset from the SmartVault Sign In page. For more information, see “Resetting Your Password” .
To change your password:
1. Sign in to the SmartVault portal. For more information, see “Signing In to the SmartVault Portal” .
2. In the upper-right corner of the portal, click My Info.
3. In the right task pane, click Change Password.
4. In the Password field, type your new password.
Your new password must be at least six characters in length.
If you use the SmartVault Drive, SmartVault recommends that you do not use a special character such as a colon (:) character or a semicolon (;) character in your password. These special characters are not supported by the native Microsoft Windows WebDAV client that the SmartVault Drive uses. For more information, see “Understanding and Mapping SmartVault Drives” and SmartVault Knowledge Base article KB292, available at http://support.smartvault.com/kb292.
5. In the Confirm password field, type your new password again.
6. Click Save Changes.
If you use the SmartVault Drive, you must remap your SmartVault Drive after you change your password.
If you do not remap your SmartVault Drive after you change your password, when you try and access your SmartVault Drive, the following error message displays:
Location is not available. DriveLetter is not accessible. Access is denied.
where DriveLetter is the drive letter you specified when you mapped your SmartVault Drive.
For more information about remapping your SmartVault Drive, see “Understanding and Mapping SmartVault Drives” .
