Downloading and Installing the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook
You can download and install the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook in just a few clicks.
Ensure you review the system requirements for the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook before you download and install the plug-in. For more information, see
“SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook Requirements” .
The SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook installed on a per user basis. This means that if more than one user uses Microsoft Outlook on the computer, then each user will need to log in and install the plug-in.
For example, assume Carol and Dawn check out and use a shared company laptop computer when they travel out of town on business. If both Carol and Dawn want to be able to use the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook on the laptop when they are traveling on business, first Carol will need to log on to the computer and then download and install the plug-in using her user credentials. Next, Dawn will need to download and install the plug-in using her user credentials.
If you are working in a hosted Microsoft Outlook environment, you will need to ask your hoster to download and install the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook for you in your hosted environment.
To download and install the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook:
1. Close Microsoft Outlook.
2. Open up a web browser and copy and paste or type the following URL into the address bar:
3. Click the Download SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook link.
4. Save the file to a location on your local computer.
5. Browse to the location on your local computer where you saved the file and then double-click the file to open it.
6. If a security warning dialog box displays, click Run to confirm that you want to run the file.
7. Click OK to extract and run the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook setup file.
8. Click Install.
9. Click Close after installation completes.
10. Open Microsoft Outlook.
11. In the SmartVault User ID Setup dialog box, type the email address you use for your SmartVault user ID, and then click OK.
12. Click Get PIN to go to the SmartVault portal and get a security PIN that you can use to authorize the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook to securely communicate with your SmartVault account.
13. If you are not already signed in to the SmartVault portal, the SmartVault Sign In page displays. Type your SmartVault user ID and password, and then click Sign In to sign in to the SmartVault portal.
After you sign in to the SmartVault portal, you will automatically be taken to a Request for Access dialog box where you can obtain your PIN. Copy the PIN number displayed in the User PIN field, and then click Allow.
14. If you are already signed in to the SmartVault portal, you will automatically be taken to a Request for Access dialog box where you can obtain your PIN. Copy the PIN number displayed in the User PIN field, and then click Allow.
15. Go back to your open Microsoft Outlook application, paste the PIN you copied into the Enter User PIN here field, and then click OK.
16. Click OK when the setup confirmation dialog box displays.
After you install the SmartVault Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook, when you create a new email message, forward an existing email message, or reply to an email message, you should see the following new buttons on your Microsoft Outlook Toolbar ribbon:
• Send Link
• Request Files

When you open up an existing email with attachments, you should see the Upload Attachments button on your Microsoft Outlook Toolbar ribbon.

When you open up an existing email without attachments, the Upload Attachments button in the Microsoft Outlook Toolbar ribbon displays as inactive (grayed out).
