Scheduling SmartVault Data Sync with SyncToy
You can schedule synchronization between files and folders on your local computer and SmartVault using SyncToy and Windows Task Scheduler.
Note: You must be logged on to your local computer as an Administrator before you can schedule data synchronization using SyncToy and Windows Task Scheduler.
To schedule SmartVault data synchronization using Sync Toy.
1. Sign in to SmartVault from the SmartVault Desktop software.
2. Map a SmartVault Drive on your machine.
Note: You only need to map a SmartVault Drive once. However, you must map a drive before you can use the SmartVault Drive and GoodSync to synchronize data with SmartVault. For more information, see “Understanding and Mapping SmartVault Drives” .
3. Create a folder pair in SyncToy. For more information about how to create a folder pair in SyncToy, see “Syncing SmartVault Data with SyncToy” .
4. Open Windows Task scheduler by clicking Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools and then double-clicking Task Scheduler in the right pane.
Note: If Windows prompts you for an Administrator password or confirmation when you are opening Windows Task Scheduler, type the password or provide the confirmation and then continue.
5. On the Action menu, click Create Basic Task.
6. In the Name field, type a name for the task, such as SyncToy and SmartVault Synchronization.
7. In the Description field, type an optional description for the task, and then click Next.
8. Specify when you want the task to start, and then click Next.
9. Specify the date and time (if applicable) when you want the task to start, and then click Next.
10. Click Start a program, and then click Next.
11. Click Browse and then browse to and select the SyncToyCmd.exe file.
By default SyncToy installs the SyncToyCmd.exe file in the C:\Program Files\SyncToy 2.1 folder.
12. In the Add arguments (optional) field, type -R. This specifies that you want to run all folder pairs that are active in Sync Toy.
If you want to run only a single folder pair, type -R “My Pair”, where “My Pair” is the name of the folder pair you want to run.
13. Click Next, and then review the task summary.
14. If you want to specify additional advanced options, select the Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish check box.
15. Click Finish.
16. If you s selected the Open the Properties dialog for this task when I click Finish check box, specify any additional advanced options, and then click OK.
17. SyncToy synchronizes the files and folders between your local computer and SmartVault.
18. Use the SmartVault Drive or the SmartVault portal to verify that the folders on your local drive were successfully synchronized to the location you specified in SmartVault.
Note: During the synchronization, SyncToy creates a small SyncToy.dat file that stores logging information and other data related to the synchronization.
