Additional Technical Details About the SmartVault Drive in Microsoft Environments
If your computer is running one of the Microsoft Windows operating systems and one of the versions of Microsoft Office, which includes popular Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, there are some differences in how you can use your SmartVault Drive based on the version of the Microsoft operating system and the version of Microsoft Office you use.

These differences in behavior are due to Microsoft use of the Web-Based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol in its Windows operating systems.
Microsoft began using the WebDAV protocol in the late 1990s, and Microsoft implemented the WebDAV protocol in the Windows XP operating system when it was released in 2001. Microsoft has also updated its implementation of the WebDAV protocol each time it has released one of its newer operating systems, such as Windows Vista and Windows 7.
However, Microsoft does not go back and make sure that its WebDAV protocol works exactly the same in each version of its operating systems, so there are some differences in the way WebDAV technology works based on the Microsoft operating system and version of Microsoft Office used. Since the SmartVault Drive leverages the WebDAV protocol as implemented by Microsoft, there are also some differences in the way the SmartVault Drive works based on the type of Microsoft operating system and version of Microsoft Office you use.
