Uploading an Archived QuickBooks Company File

SmartVault allows you to upload a copy of your archived QuickBooks company file and associated files.

Here are some common reasons you may want to archive your QuickBooks company files:

    • You close your books each year and start a new company file.
    • Your firm merged with another firm, and the data was migrated from one file to another.
    • You have closed your QuickBooks but want to preserve the data.

Keep your data safe by creating a ZIP file of your company file and its associated files and manually uploading it to SmartVault.

Uploading a Zipped Company File

To upload a zipped company file:

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Navigate to the folder where you want to upload the zipped company file.
  3. Click Upload File.
  4. Click inside the drag-and-drop area to open your computer’s file explorer.
  5. Select the .zip file and click Open.
  6. Click Save to upload the .zip file to the selected folder.

Zipping up your Company File

To zip your company file and associated files:

  1. Locate and select the company file (.qbw) and all the QuickBooks associated files (e.g., .ND, .TLG, .LOG) you want to zip on your computer.
  2. Right-click the file(s), select Send to, then select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  3. A .zip file will appear containing all the compressed data. You can rename the file and move it to a specific location on your computer.

      Tip

We recommend adding the current date to the name to help you remember when  you zipped up the file.
