Understanding Doc Requests in SmartVault (for Guest Users)

GUEST USER You are a Guest User if you've been invited by a paid subscriber to access SmartVault through a shared portal

Your accounting or tax professional may ask you to provide information or upload documents through SmartVault Doc Requests.

Doc Requests make it easy for you to send files or complete questionnaires securely within SmartVault.

Depending on what your professional sends you, you’ll see one of two types of requests: Request Docs or SmartRequests.

Document Requests (Request Docs)

If you’re asked to upload specific files—such as W-2s, bank statements, or receipts—you’ll receive a Request Docs request. You can:

  • Click the email link to open the request.
  • Upload files from your computer or mobile device (using SmartScan).
  • Add comments or mark items as “This does not apply.”
  • Submit your documents securely.

SmartRequests (Questionnaires)

If you’re asked to complete an online form that includes both questions and file uploads, you’ve received a SmartRequest.

SmartRequests are personalized questionnaires that may include prefilled answers from your previous tax engagement. You can:

  • Review and update the prefilled information.
  • Upload supporting documents directly within the form.
  • Use Save & Close to return later.
  • Track progress with the completion bar before submitting.
