Moving a Folder in the SmartVault Portal

You can quickly move folders to a new location in SmartVault. Whether it's another vault or a different folder, relocating folders is an effective way to keep your files organized and accessible.


Before proceeding, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • User License & Access: You need a user license with Read, Write, Create, and Delete permissions for both the source and target folders.
  • Vault Manager Role: To move folders across vaults, you must be designated as a vault manager for both the source and target vaults.
  • Permission Considerations: Be aware that moving folders across vaults will reset permissions for all users, clients, and guests, excluding administrators. It's important to plan to reset these permissions post-move.

To move a folder,

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Select View Files and Folders from the navigation sidebar.


  3. Go to the folder you want to move.
  4. Click Actions Actions_icon.png next to the folder and select Move.


  5. In the Manage Files window, navigate to and select the new destination for your folder, then click Save changes.

After your folder has been successfully moved, consider revisiting the permissions for any users, clients, and guests impacted by this change.
