Moving a Folder in the SmartVault Portal

This article will explain how to move folders to another vault or folder in your SmartVault account.

To move a folder,

  • You must have a user license and access (Read, Write, Create, and Delete permissions) to both the source and target folders.
  • You must be a vault manager on both the target and source vaults if you're moving folders across the vault.
  • Permissions will be lost for all users, clients, and guests when moving folders across vaults except administrators.


  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Browse to and select the folder(s) that you want to move.


    If you have your View Preferences set to "2020 New View", follow the Steps in the new Files and Folders experience.

  3. Click the Move icon.
  4. Choose a target folder and press OK.

Steps in the new View Files and Folders experience

Follow these steps if you have your View Preferences set to "2020 New View."

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Select View Files and Folders from the left sidebar.


  3. Navigate to the folder you want to move, click its Actions button (Actions_icon.png), and choose Move.


  4. In the Manage Files pop-up modal, select the destination to move the file and click Save changes.
