Unlocking a File in the Connected Desktop

GENERAL USER

When a file remains locked even after saving and closing it in the Connected Desktop, it may require manual unlocking. Please note that only administrator(s) on the SmartVault account have permission to unlock files.

  Important Considerations

    • Save your work—Before proceeding, ensure all work is saved and all files are closed. Unlocking a file without a saved copy may result in the loss of unsaved changes.
    • Collaborative Environment—Verify that the file is not in use by another SmartVault user. Unlocking a file someone else is working on may cause them to lose their changes.
    • Last Resort—The unlock feature should only be used as a last resort when a file remains locked and cannot be accessed for editing, moving, or deleting.

How to Unlock a File

  1. Open the Connected Desktop and navigate to the file that remains locked.
