Overview
When restoring a QuickBooks company file backup using the Restore QuickBooks Data functionality, you may get the following error:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Users\~ .QBW.DSN' is denied.
This error indicates that either someone else is currently accessing it, or you do not have the correct permissions to access it.
Resolving this Error
- Ensure QuickBooks is completely closed.
Note
QuickBooks company files cannot be open when attempting to restore a company file backup.
- From QuickBooks, select File > Exit.
- Open the Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.
- Select Processes.
- Check for QBW32.exe.
- If it is running, select it and click End process.
This should resolve the issue. In rare cases, a reboot may be necessary.
