All files in the DMS Tax Returns folder, except for the Client Copy and Government Copy, will be automatically transferred to the Tax Returns folder in SmartVault. These files will not be visible to your clients in the client portal.
You must adjust the DMS migration settings to share the Complete Tax Return with your clients instead of just the Client Copy or Government Copy. This guide will help you configure the DMS migration rule so that the Complete Tax Returns are copied to the Client Tax Returns folder, making them accessible to your clients in their portal.
How to Configure the DMS Migration
To set up your DMS migration so clients can view the Complete Tax Return:
- Open the Import Data Tool:
- Click on the Import Data icon in the SmartVault Launchpad window.
- Select the Data Source:
- Choose Intuit DMS as the source.
- Select your SmartVault account to import to and click Next.
- Access Folder Mapping:
- On the next screen, click Folder Mapping.
- The DMS Folder Mapping tool opens, displaying the folder mapping for the Client folder by default.
- Modify the Folder Mapping:
- Click the down arrow next to Client and select Tax Year Engagement.
- Edit the Mapping Rule:
- Select the option "Move complete copy of tax return to location of Complete Copy (using association)" and then click Edit.
- Set the Destination Folder and Correct Target Association:
- In the Mapping Definition window, click the down arrow to expand the menu next to Target Association.
- Select "Client Copy of tax return" and click OK.
- Save the Changes:
- Back on the DMS Folder Mapping window, click OK.
Your Complete Tax Returns will now be mapped to the Client Tax Returns folder during the migration, ensuring each client can access this type of tax return in their portal.
Tip
If you need to return to these steps during your migration, check your configurations to ensure the setup is correct so you can share the appropriate files with your clients.
