With Files View in the Connected Desktop, you can easily access all your files and folders, just as you would in the SmartVault client portal. You can browse and manage any files you have access to, whether they're in tax client vaults or other storage areas within your SmartVault account.
How to Switch Between Clients View and Files View
- Open the Connected Desktop.
- In the lower-left corner, you'll see Clients and Files.
-
Click Files to switch to Files View, or Clients to go back.
My Clients View (If Available)
If you're an employee assigned to specific clients, you'll see a My Clients tab in the Connected Desktop.
This tab filters the view to show only the clients assigned to you, helping you focus on just the files you're responsible for.
- To use it, click My Clients. Your client list will update to show only your assigned clients.
Note
If you're an assigned employee, this tab won't appear; you'll automatically see only your assigned clients.
Understanding the Files View Layout
Files View has three main areas that work together.
Folder Tree Pane (left side)
- This pane shows a collapsible tree of all your folders and vaults.
- Click the + icon next to an item to expand it.
- Select any item to display its contents in the Document View pane.
Document View Pane (center area)
This area shows the files and folders inside the item you selected.
Here you can:
- Open and edit files.
- Rename, copy, or delete files and folders.
- Send secure links to share files with others.
Document View Toolbar (top of center area)
- This toolbar appears above the Document View pane.
- It shows the available actions based on what you've selected (a file or a folder).
- Options change depending on your selection.
Quick Tips
- The current location you're viewing is always displayed at the top of the Document View area.
- All the same file management features from the SmartVault client portal are available here.
- Files View works with any type of account setup, not just tax client vaults.
