Resolving the "The Operation Being Requested was not Performed Because the User has not been Authenticated" Error

Overview

You may receive this error:

Error: The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not been authenticated.

This issue has two possible causes:

  • The password you use to sign in to SmartVault contains a special character, such as a colon (:) character or semicolon (;) character. The native Microsoft Windows WebDAV client does not support these special characters that the SmartVault Drive uses.
  • You've recently updated your password, and it is still cached in the SmartVault Drive.

Resolving This Error

To resolve this issue, change your SmartVault password to a password that does not contain a colon (:) character or semicolon (;) character.

If your password does not contain these characters follow these steps:

Most likely, this is due to a cached password, different than your current one being saved.

  1. Right-click the SmartVault icon in the system tray and select Options.
  2. Disable Remember my user name checkbox.
  3. Right-click the SmartVault icon in the system tray and choose Disconnect Drive (If not shown, skip this step)
  4. Right-click the SmartVault icon in the system tray and choose Sign Out.
  5. Right-click the SmartVault icon in the system tray and select Sign In.
  6. Right-click the SmartVault icon in the system tray and select Map SmartVault Drive.

It should ask you for your credentials again, type your user name and password and the drive should map correctly.
