Configuring a ScanSnap Scanner

GENERAL USER

If you have a ScanSnap scanner, you can scan documents directly to the SmartVault Toolbar or the Connected Desktop.

To use ScanSnap, you must first install and integrate the software with SmartVault.

Supported Scanners

We support ScanSnap models compatible with ScanSnap Home and ScanSnap Manager. Visit the ScanSnap website to determine which software works best with your scanner.

  • ScanSnap Home supported models: iX1300, iX1400, iX1500, iX1600, iX500, S1300i, iX100, S1100i, SV600
  • ScanSnap Manager supported models: iX1300, iX1400, iX1500, iX1600, iX500, S1300i. iX100,, S1100i, SV600

You will receive the following error if the ScanSnap software needs to be installed.

  Important

    • Before you begin, make sure your SmartVault Desktop client is installed.
    • Ricoh no longer supports ScanSnap Manager. Although it is still functional, Ricoh recommends using ScanSnap Home instead.

If you have an older scanner or receive an error when attempting to create the ScanSnap profiles automatically, you may have to manually create your SmartVault ScanSnap profiles.

Identifying your ScanSnap Software

To identify the ScanSnap software you installed, click the Search icon on the Windows taskbar and type "ScanSnap." You will see results for either ScanSnap Manager or ScanSnap Home.

Integrating a ScanSnap Scanner with SmartVault

To integrate the ScanSnap Scanner:

  1. Open the SmartVault Launchpad and sign in if prompted.
  2. Click Fujitsu ScanSnap Setup.

  3. In the ScanSnap integration - SmartVault window, click the corresponding button for the ScanSnap software you currently run: ScanSnap Home or ScanSnap Manager.

  4. After successful integration, you can create the SmartVault Inbox and SmartVault Toolbar profiles.

Create Full-text Searchable PDF Files When Scanning 

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is available in your SmartVault Inbox and SmartVault Toolbar profiles. 

  Note

If you enable OCR capabilities for the SmartVault Inbox and SmartVault Toolbar profiles, the scanning process takes longer.

ScanSnap Home ScanSnap Manager

To create searchable PDF files for ScanSnap Home:

  1. Right-click on the ScanSnap Home icon and click Show the scan window.
  2. Click Edit Profiles and select a SmartVault profile.
  3. In the Scan Settings section, click Detailed Settings.
  4. Under File Format, select Convert to Searchable PDF.
  5. Click OK, and then click Save on the Edit Profile window.
