Uninstalling and Reinstalling SmartVault

This guide provides instructions on completely uninstalling the SmartVault Desktop client or installing the SmartVault Desktop Client on a new machine.

Uninstalling SmartVault

If you need to remove SmartVault from your computer, follow these steps. Please ensure that QuickBooks and any other applications integrated with SmartVault are closed before you begin.

  1. Exit SmartVault:
    1. Right-click the SmartVault icon in the system tray. (You'll find it near the clock at the bottom right of your screen).
    2. Select Exit.

  2. Open Control Panel and Uninstall SmartVault:
      1. Go to the Windows Control Panel. (You can find this by searching for "Control Panel" in the Start menu.
      2. Click on Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features
      3. Scroll through the list of installed programs until you find SmartVault. You can also type "SmartVault" in the search box to find it.
      4. Click on SmartVault, then choose Uninstall or Remove.
      5. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstallation.

  3. Remove Residual Files:
      1. Open Windows File Explorer. Press the Windows key + E, or click the folder icon on your taskbar.
      2. Type "%appdata%" in the address bar, and press Enter.
      3. Locate and delete the SmartVault folder.
      4. Go to the C:\Program Files x86 and delete the SmartVault folder in this location.

  4. Edit the Windows Registry:


    Proceed with caution when editing the Windows Registry. Deleting the wrong entries can cause problems with your system. If you're not confident in doing this, please seek assistance from an IT professional. 

      1. Click the Windows Start button and type "Regedit" and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      2. Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE".
      3. Right-click on any entries named "SmartVault" and select Delete.

Reinstalling SmartVault

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Click Install desktop app from the home page.
  3. The installation file downloads and appears in the Download bar of your browser. Click on it to begin the installation process.
  4. The installation wizard will guide you through the setup. Follow the on-screen prompts until the installation is complete.
