Installing the SmartVault Desktop Software

Installing the SmartVault Desktop Software enables seamless document management right from your desktop, offering essential tools for efficient online document storage and access.

The SmartVault Desktop software installs the following applications on your local computer:

  • SmartVault Connected Desktop
  • SmartVault Launchpad
  • SmartVault Portal

Before You Start the Installation

Before you start, follow these steps to ensure the SmartVault Desktop software can install correctly:

  1. Go to Windows Start >Turn Windows Features on or off.
  2. Select .Net Framework 3.5 (includes .Net2.0 and 3.0).
  3. Press OK.

Installing the Desktop Software

To install the SmartVault Desktop software, you must first download the installation file from the SmartVault Portal Home or Settings page.

The following video walks through the download and installation process.

Option 1. Download the installation file from the Settings page 

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Click on your initials at the top of the screen, and click Settings.
  3. Click MS Windows under SmartVault Apps for.
  4. Click Download SmartVault for Microsoft Windows.
  5. Run the installer file.

Option 2. Download the installation file from the Home page

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Click Install desktop app from the home page.
  3. The installation file downloads and appears in your browser's Download bar. Click on it to begin the installation process.
  4. The installation wizard will guide you through the setup. Follow the on-screen prompts until the installation is complete.

Run the installation file

  1. Run the SmartVaultSetup.exe from your browser's Download Bar or your Downloads folder.

  2. Click Yes on the security warning.
  3. Follow the prompts on the SmartVault Install Wizard.
  4. Accept the Terms of the license agreement and then click Next
  5. Choose the default product install path and then click Next.

      Note

    You should install this software in your C:\ drive.

  6. To create desktop shortcuts for the SmartVault Connected Desktop, SmartVault Launchpad, and the SmartVault Portal, enable the Create desktop shortcut checkbox for each item you want to create a desktop shortcut for and then click Next.
    We recommend deselecting the SmartVault Inbox during this step. The Inbox is an older tool that has been replaced by the functionality offered in the Connected Desktop. Deselecting this option ensures your installation includes only the most up-to-date and frequently used SmartVault applications.

  7. Click Finish to complete the installation.
