When SmartVault can't connect to your QuickBooks company file, you may see this error:
0x80040420 The QuickBooks user has denied access. This application is not allowed to log in automatically. Check the qbsdklog.txt file for possible additional information.
This guide explains why it happens and walks you through the steps to re-enable automatic access, allowing SmartVault to sync your company file smoothly.
Why This Error Occurs
QuickBooks prompts you the first time an external app tries to integrate. If you choose Don't allow or leave automatic login unchecked for SmartVault, QuickBooks blocks future connections and records error 0x80040420.
How To Resolve This Error
- Open QuickBooks and Access Preferences
- Launch QuickBooks and go to Edit > Preferences.
- Open Integrated Applications
- In the left sidebar, select Integrated Applications.
- Click the Company Preferences tab.
- Locate SmartVault
- Under Authorized Applications, find SmartVault in the list.
- Click Properties.
- Enable Automatic Login
- In the Access Rights dialog, check:
- Allow this application to read and modify this company file
- Allow this application to login automatically
- Click OK to save.
- In the Access Rights dialog, check:
- Restart and Verify
- Close and reopen both QuickBooks and the SmartVault Launchpad.
- Confirm that SmartVault connects without showing error 0x80040420.
