Troubleshooting: "Network Name Cannot be Found" Error Connecting SmartVault Drive

When you try to map or reconnect your SmartVault Drive, you may see:

Error: The network name cannot be found at SVault.Client.WebDrive.UI.WNetSDK.Connect

This guide explains why it happens and shows you how to clear cached credentials, restart the Windows WebClient service, and reconnect successfully.

Why This Error Occurs

  • Old Credentials Cached: You recently changed your SmartVault password, but Windows is still using the old one.
  • WebClient Service Stopped: The Windows WebClient service, required for WebDAV connections, is not running or has become unresponsive.

How To Resolve This Error

  1. Clear Cached Credentials
    • Open Credential Manager:
      • In Windows 10 or 11, search for Credential Manager in the Start menu.
      • In Windows 8, or if you prefer, press Win + R, type control /name Microsoft.CredentialManager, and press Enter.
    • Under Windows Credentials, find any entries for SmartVault.
    • Click the entry, then choose Remove.
  2. Restart the WebClient Service
    • Open Services:
      • Right-click This PC (or Computer) on your desktop and select Manage > Services and Applications > Services.
      • Or press Win + R, type services.msc, and click OK.

    • Scroll to WebClient in the list.

    • Right-click WebClient and choose:
      • Stop (if it’s running), then right-click again and choose Start.
      • Start (if it’s stopped).
    • Ensure the Status column shows Running
  3. Reconnect Your SmartVault Drive
    • Open the SmartVault Launchpad (via Start > SmartVault Launchpad).
    • Sign in with your updated credentials if prompted.
    • Click SmartVault Drive.
    • Enter your SmartVault user ID and new password, then click OK.
    • Verify the drive maps without error.

If the error persists, reboot your computer and repeat these steps.
