Changing or Resetting Your SmartVault Password

If you've forgotten your password or want to update it, this article explains how to reset or change your SmartVault password and what to check if something doesn't work as expected.

Choose the option that applies to you:

  Note

  • If you use SmartVault Drive, you'll need to remap your drive after changing your password so it can reconnect using your updated credentials.

  • SmartVault employees cannot see your password.

Resetting Your Password

Use these steps if you cannot sign in or forgot your password.

  1. Go to the SmartVault sign-in page.
  2. Click Forgot password?
  3. Enter the email address associated with your SmartVault account.
  4. Click Send reset email.
  5. Open the email from SmartVault (notify@my.smartvault.com) and click the reset password link.

      Important

    The password reset link expires in 24 hours.

Create Your New Password

Enter your new password that meets the following requirements.

Password requirements:

  • Minimum 12 characters
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one number
  • At least one punctuation mark

The following characters are not allowed:

: ; _

Retype your password to confirm it, then click Set New Password.

After changing your password, SmartVault will send a two-factor authentication code to complete the sign-in process. 

  Tip

Password reset emails are usually delivered within a few minutes.

Didn't Receive the Password Reset Email?

If you didn't receive the reset email, try the following before requesting another one:

  • Check your spam or junk folder.
  • Make sure you entered the correct email address.
  • Wait a few minutes — email delivery can sometimes be delayed.
  • If you're using a work or company email, your organization's email security may be blocking the message.

About Email Allowlisting (Whitelisting)

Some organizations block automated emails by default.

Allowlisting tells your email system that SmartVault emails are safe and should be delivered.

If you're unsure how to allowlist SmartVault emails, contact your IT team or email administrator for assistance.

Allowlisting is handled by your email system, not inside SmartVault.

If you still don't receive the reset email after trying these steps, contact your SmartVault administrator or SmartVault Support for help.

Changing Your Password (If You're Already Signed In)

If you know your current password and want to change it:

  1. Sign in to the SmartVault Portal.
  2. Click the initials in the top-right corner of the page, then select Settings.
  3. Under User Settings, click Manage Password.
  4. Enter your current password and your new password.
  5. Confirm your new password, then click Save Changes.

Password Tips

To help avoid sign-in issues:

Choose a strong, memorable password
Use a unique password that is difficult for others to guess.

Update saved passwords
After resetting your SmartVault password, update any saved passwords in your browser or password manager to prevent sign-in errors.

Use the correct email address
Password reset emails are sent to the email address associated with your SmartVault account.
